Day 1: Departure
Traveling Day
Travel from Cape Town International airport (depart 10:00) via Swellendam to Malgas, the starting point of the walk. We stop for lunch (own account) and a wine tasting at Rooiberg Cellars and climb the highest chair in Africa!
We stop in the picturesque town of Swellendam steeped in history where we will visit the interesting Drostdy Museum and do some curio shopping before we cross the Breederiver on a historical hand-driven pont.

Day 2
Walking day 1
From Malgas on the banks of the Breede river, we will explore the back roads to Infanta, overlooking the Bay of Witsand, which is worldwide known as the Whale Nursery. We have lunch at the picnic spot above the beach. Then it is time for Whale watching!

Day 3
Walking day 2
Walk from Malgas through a typical Overberg tapestry of canola and wheat fields in brilliant yellow and green. After breakfast at Die Handelshuis, (included) we visit a giant Milkwood tree on an Ayrshire dairy farm. In Bredasdorp, we will visit the Capula candle factory and the shipwreck museum. You will be transfered to L’Agulhas Chalets.

Walking day 3
We will walk from L’Agulhas via the most Southern Point in Africa along the Coast to Struisbaai. Breakfast will be at Pelicans Restaurant in the picturesque Harbor of Struisbaai (own account). Walk from Soetendalsvlei via Elandsdrif to Strandveld Cellars for a wine tasting at the most Southern Cellar in Africa!.
Transfer via Elim to Uylenvlei Retreat.

Walk after breakfast along a narrow dirt road, amongst breathtaking flowering fynbos and proteas via Wolwengat to De Damme next to the coast near Pearly beach.

Day 6
Walking day 5
Breakfast run’ along farm roads to Marietjies’ Pub in Baardskeerders Bos, for a unique breakfast experience (included). Walk along the coast from Pearly Beach to Danger Point Light House in Gansbaai. This stretch of coast with its rocky pools and amazing birdlife is one of the most beautiful coastlines on the Cape Whale Coast. We will visit the Strandveld Museum at Franskraal’s waters’ edge and also Danger Point Lighthouse. We end the day with a special visit to the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary in Kleinbaai for an informative talk.Get ready to lose your heart to these comical flightless torpedoes in tuxedoes.

We start the day with a wine tasting at Lomond Cellar after the easy first walk of the day! From Lomond, we will walk on dirt roads along the Uilenkraals river via Papiesvlei and Sondagskloof.

From Paardenkraal Cottages we will walk to the Klein River Cheese Farm for a private cheese tasting and a picnic lunch and the trees. Love cheese? Use this opportunity to buy some of these awards winning cheeses!
Transfer via Akkedis Pass to start walking from Alpha Farm to Drayton Farm, the oldest farm in the Caledon District.

Day 9

Walk along farm roads, surrounded by majestic mountain scenery and a typical Overberg tapestry of canola and wheat fields in brilliant yellow and green, to the timeless village of Greyton You will have time to explore the village of Greyton and buy souvenirs in unique little shops scattered throughout the village.
Our 6-kilometre walk on a jeep track through a fynbos veldt will take us to Genadendal the first and oldest mission station in South Africa.After a visit to the historic church, once visited by Lady Ann Barnard and Nelson Mandela we will visit the exceptional museum, the iconic Pear Tree and Khoi village. From Genadendal we will drive back to Drayton Guest Farm.

Day 10

Walk from Nooitgedacht Farm via Tesselaarsdal to Shaw’s Mountain Pass – where the going gets tough and the tough gets going! From this high lookout your transfer will be down the beautiful vineyards of the Hemel-and-Aarde-Valley to Vermont.

Day 11
Walking day 10
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Voëlklip for a walk along the Cliff Path to the historic Old Harbour. After lunch (own account) we will continue our walk along the Cliff Path to the New Harbour. Hermanus offers the best land-based whale watching in the world in season and you can use your free time scanning the ocean or visit the plethora of quaint shops. We will walk from the Lookout Point, high above Hermanus into the Lower Hemel and Aarde Valley.
We will end our day with wine and gin tasting at the Wine Village from where you will be transferred to Vermont.

We will leave early for Cape Town International Airport to arrive at 10:00.
Eco Ultra Pilgrimage Walks
The unique 301km Eco Ultra Walks were designed to renew the whole being the physical as well as the psychological. These adventure walks are South Africa’s own pilgrimages.
We explore all the facets of nature in the different areas of Southern Africa and discover the history, the local people and their cultures. Participants are amazed by the sense of achievement, self-worth and a new purpose for life, which result from completing these Eco Ultra Walks.
This pilgrimage provides a sense of timelessness and freedom, which helps renew and revive.
- Thirty kilometres a day for ten days
- Each day is walked in 7 – 9km shifts, with safari-style rest stops in the veldt
- Walking is mainly on Jeep tracks and gravel roads no hiking trails.
- Accommodation is mostly on guest farms, where you stay in chalets.
- Three meals a day, with a support vehicle and support team are provided.
- After booking your pilgrimage walk you will receive Newsletters with recommendations on training, walking equipment, packing checklists and general information i.e. travelling options.
